Join us for the first Luncheon of the 2018-2019 IWIL Program year as we celebrate IWIL President, Linda Jones' theme for the year, "True North" with speaker Kelly Wickham Hurst.

Our luncheons are open to all IWIL members and their guests. Registration is $18 per person before August 10 and $23 after August 10 or at the door. 

Seeking to inspire others to find their own True North, local activist and advocate Kelly Wickham Hurst will provide 5 practical lessons to search within as we seek out our internal compasses, point them in a positive direction, and take off with confidence. In True North, we learn about discovering our authentic voices as leaders. But, what does that mean for women? What does that mean for people of color? What does that mean in this political climate?

About our speaker: Kelly Wickham Hurst is a longtime educator in both the private and public schools in Springfield, Illinois. After 23 years in the system, Kelly left to create a non-profit, Being Black at School. She is also a staff member for SCoDR (Springfield Coalition on Dismantling Racism and a facilitator with Crossroads Antiracism Organizing and Training. She holds a Bachelor of Science in English Literature as well as a minor degree in Afro-American History. She earned her Masters of Educational Administration from the Illinois State University. She taught English for grades 6-12 and served as assistant principal in middle and high schools in Springfield. Kelly and her husband have 6 children and 2 granddaughters. She’s passionately invested in advocacy and policy and works to dismantle racism every day.
