Inspire & Empower
Tradition, Women, Mission & Change

Cindy Lash, King's Daughters Organization and Stacy Reed, Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln

How does a group keep it going for 125 years? You start with strong women, a worthy mission and embrace transformation. Decades before women had the right to vote, the King's Daughters in Springfield organized as a non-profit in 1893 to support and care for the elderly, primarily by owning and running a home for elderly women. Today, the methods have evolved, but the vibrant mission remains strong and far-reaching. Community needs change and bold action was taken in 2006 when the home was sold after 111 years with proceeds adding to their Community Foundation endowment. This evolution was a spring-board for the King's Daughters to have an even greater mission impact. Their fundraising and service continues with wide-ranging effect. In 2017 alone, they gave away 19 grants totaling $1,155,000. to support & enhance the lives of the elderly.

Join us as Cindy Lash, a past Board President from King’s Daughters shares about their rich origins, history and current community action. Joining her will be Stacy Reed from the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln to share the impact KDO had on the Foundation and our community.  This is truly an organization that has been able to evolve, grow, and succeed in its mission. King's Daughters can inspire and empower women of IWIL to continue to grow & persevere in their careers, family, and volunteer service.
