Committee Descriptions 2008-2009
The richness of IWIL exists through networking, learning from and sharing
with each other, all the while working towards common goals. The easiest way
for all of us to expand our personal benefits is by working with a committee.
This summary describes the existing committees. Read through them and find the
one or ones of greatest interest to you. Perhaps it is an area you know nothing
about but want to learn because you know it will develop additional skills.
Maybe it's a committee similar to others you have been on and you can offer
expertise while strengthening relationships with those in various fields.
Contact the committee chair with your questions and your interest level. You may
reach them by sending an email to info@iwil.biz
with the person's name in the subject line.
Communications

Chair: Sarah Delano Pavlik
Committee members gather information for the monthly
newsletter, take notes at the monthly programs to later write monthly
newsletter articles; possibly interviews members for "highlight"
articles; proof newsletter, collect and read "Pay
for Say" at regular meetings.
There are no in-person meetings required; get connected with each other
and members via email and the telephone then meet at IWIL meetings.
Approximate time commitment: up to 2 hours per month, depending on the
number of individuals on the committee.
Directory

Chair: Brenda Shutz
This committee has the responsibility for compiling and distributing the IWIL membership directory to our membership. They also keep the membership directory spreadsheet located on the IWIL web site regularly updated throughout the year. To compile the IWIL membership directory, they work with a photographer and printer. They proof all copy, assemble it and distribute it in a timely manner to all members.
Meetings are held, if necessary, to select photographer, printer, compile data, etc. Committee members are needed to help at the August and September meeting to work with selected photographer and October to help compile and distribute directories. Help is also needed throughout the year to maintain the spreadsheet for the IWIL web site.
Approximate time commitment: varies month to month, heavier in the first part of the fiscal year.
Hospitality

Chair:
Carlissa Pucket & Connie DiCenso
Hospitality Committee plans the annual summer social, the winter holiday
social, and the annual meeting. The winter holiday social is one of IWIL's
premiere events as it serves as the major fundraiser for the IWIL scholarship
program. Committee members take turns staffing the registration check-in
desk at general meetings. The committee has plenty of party-planning fun
and is a great way to meet members.
Meetings take place on an as-needed basis and are supported by email correspondence.
Approximate time commitment: Between June and December there are 5-6 meetings.
Each committee member spends 5-6 additional hours on other committee related
tasks during the year.
Membership

Chair: Linda Nickerson
The Membership Committee reviews the submitted applications and prepares recommendations
for the Board's review. There is a New Member Reception each year and this committee
plans and hosts it.
Meetings are the Monday before the first Thursday of each month at 5:45 p.m.
Locations vary.
Approximate time commitment: 30 minutes to 1 hour a month plus we stay and have
dinner or appetizers after the meeting!
Mentoring

Chair: Val Yazel
The Mentoring Committee mentors new and less active IWIL members by forming a buddy system and taking them to lunch or meeting at a mutually agreed upon time and place. This committee is a great way to network with new people and to encourage other members to get involved in various IWIL activities.
Approximate time commitment: Lunch with a new member; no meetings – communication with chair is done via email.
Programs

Chair: Darlene Weaver
IWIL programs are set in early July, right after the fiscal year starts. The Program
Committee begins early and ends early. Volunteers are welcome and you may call next
year's president (Annette Piper) if you are interested in helping the Program Chair for
next year.
Meetings are based upon committee member availability.
Approximate time commitment: Several hours at the beginning of the IWIL fiscal year.

and independence are needed.

Registration

needed name tags are created.
